So, when mastering, always boost frequencies with a narrow-to-medium Q. During mastering, subtractive EQ is not a great choice because you’ll have to make up for the loudness loss later. Half a dB already does a good job depending on the track and genre. Some engineers praise adding even less than 2dB. Adding no more than 2dB on particular frequency regions will make an effective difference that will be enhanced later in the chain. Ideally, you should use very little EQ, especially at the beginning of the signal chain.
